MacEachern, Alexander Joseph "Josie" - Dec. 01, 1932 - Feb. 18, 2015 Port Hawkesbury formerly of Craigmore, Inv Co. Known by all who knew him as Joe, he was the second son born, 82 years ago, into the family of Angus Dougald and Christy (Mac Neil) MacEachern of Craigmore, Cape Breton. Joe was one of 16, with 10 brothers and 5 sisters to have captured the name of "the Coopers from Craigmore". After years of working the steel construction business he settled in Craigmore and later making Port Hawkesbury his home. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Elaine (Ogilvie) MacEachern, son, Theodore Joseph "Joey"; brothers, Dougald, Angus Beaton and Johnny; sisters, Theresa and Mary Belle; nephews, Kevin and Stevie, and great-nephew, Drew. Joe loved a good game of cards; he talked often about his outings to the card games and looked forward to the call of someone needing a partner for the game. A good game of cribbage was never refused and his quick and sharp sense of humour was dealt to all who knew him. Joe is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Donnie) Peters, Mount Uniacke; and his son, David, Dartmouth. He held a special place in his heart for his grandson, Matthew, step-grandchildren, Brad (Jaime) and Kelly (Danek); great-grandchildren, Sam and Pacey. Josie is also survived by his sisters, Elizabeth (Burney) Smith, Aneas (Jimmy) Mac Eachern; Halifax, Almira O'Brien, Long Point; brothers, Steve (Valerie), Kincardine, Ont.; Hugh (Alice), Alex Dan (Betty), Jerry (Helena) and Angus (Marion) of Craigmore; Bill (Chris), Cow Bay and Dougald (Helen), Lr. Sackville; sister’s-in-law, Marlene and Agnes; as well many nieces and nephews. The family wish to thank his many friends who shared their time and kindness with him, whether it is drives to the mall, outings to the card games or sharing a cup of coffee with him over the years. Also to the home care staff that visited weekly. To the nursing staff at Strait Richmond for his final days of care, your kindness and compassion are greatly acknowledged. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, from 6-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral Mass will be 11a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Creignish, with Father Hughie D. MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Joe to Stella Maris Cemetery Fund, Creignish, Cape Breton.
