MacEACHERN, Mary "Margaret" – It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Mary "Margaret" MacEachern announce her passing on Saturday, March 22, 2014, in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Born in Inverness on August 7, 1921, Margaret was the eldest daughter of the late Daniel and Florence (MacLellan) Chisholm. Margaret grew up in the depression years in Inverness, where her family depended upon hard work, family, friends and their faith to sustain them during those years. Marg’s faith was also important in particular attending morning mass and singing in the choir at Stella Maris Parish, Inverness. The family moved to Pictou during the war years, where her father worked in the shipyard. Pictou was where mom met the love of her life, the late Neil Joseph MacEachern, where they were married and raised seven children. Marg was a stay at home mom who created a caring and faith filled home for her family. After the death of her husband in 1970, Marg moved to Auld’s Cove to provide her family with new opportunities. She loved to go to bingo. She enjoyed the fiddle and Scottish music and giving a step or two at a family celebration. Margaret was a quiet woman who could express a strong opinion and sharp wit at the most opportune time. Margaret is survived by her loving children, Jessie (Deacon Berkley) Guthro, Port Hawkesbury; Christine (Edward) Purcell, Antigonish; Francis (Brenda) MacEachern, Whiteside; James (Kelly) MacEachern, Halifax; Joseph (Cynthia) MacEachern, Dartmouth; Daniel (Carol) MacEachern, Auld’s Cove; Ann (Raymond) Cogswell, Evanston. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 babies on the way; several nieces and nephews. Margaret is also survived by her sisters, Chrissie (Joseph) Wood, Auld’s Cove; Florence (late George) Brennan, Mulgrave; brother, Earl (late Elsie) Chisholm, Port Hawkesbury; sisters-in-law, Mary McGuire, Saint John, NB; Rose Chisholm, Long Point. Along with her husband Joe, she was predeceased by her sister, Catherine "Kaye" and the late Leo MacDonald; brothers, John Donald (late Jean) Chisholm, Pictou; Andrew (late Betty) Chisholm, Abercrombie; John William Chisholm, Saint John, NB; Alexander Lawrence Chisholm, Auld’s Cove. Margaret will be resting at Mulgrave and Area Resting Place from 2-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 27. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Parish Church, Mulgrave at 11 a.m. on Friday with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial at a later date in Pictou. Family flowers only please.
