Obituary
Please share a memory of Verna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that the family of Verna Eileen Timmons - age 57 of Port Hawkesbury announce her peaceful passing on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at home surrounded by her loved ones. Verna was born in Antigonish, the daughter of the late Elva and Jessie "Florence" (Ryan) Timmons. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend to many.
Verna was the matriarch of her family. She was a devoted, supportive, caring mother and grandmother who spoiled her grandchildren to no end, never once telling them no. She will be fondly remembered for her acts of kindness, generosity, and her playful sense of humor. Verna was a thoughtful and kind-hearted friend who always had a smile on her face and a cup of tea waiting for her guests. In her free time, when she didn’t have a house full of grandchildren, Verna enjoyed playing darts, cards and never missed watching her Monday night wrestling.
Left to mourn her passing are children, Deanna (Lionel Clarke) Timmons, Inverness; Bridget (Jason) MacDonald, Valley Mills; Brian (Sandra MacInnis) Timmons, West Bay; Brandy (Brett Halfpenny) Timmons, Port Hawkesbury; and Markus (Amanda) Timmons, Port Hawkesbury. As well as her beloved grandchildren, Jessie, Coady, Hayden, Cole, Autumn, Riley, Bryden, Savannah, Mason, Summer, and Caleb. Also surviving is her brother, Julian "Duke" (Patricia) Timmons, Port Hawkesbury and sisters, Melinda (Raymond) Hannigan, Port Hawkesbury; and Crystal (Walter Hinkley) Timmons. Verna will also be greatly missed by her cherished cousin and roommate, Irene Dorton and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who Verna adored. Verna was predeceased by her dear brothers, Lloyd Timmons in 2009, and Patrick Timmons in 2017.
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held on Sunday, February 20 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville Street, Port Hawkesbury. Burial will take place at a later date.
