MORRISON, Agnes "Shirley" – Aberdeen, Inverness Co. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Agnes "Shirley" Morrison who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, after a courageous six year battle with cancer.
Born in East Skye Glen, Inverness Co., to the late John Murdock and Annie Catherine (MacPhee) MacInnis. Shirley is survived by her children, Stewart (Carolyn) Morrison; Ivan (Joyce) Morrison; Jill (Selwyn) Morrison; her grandchildren, Dylan (Cara) Morrison; Devin Morrison, Jade Hunt, Emily Morrison. She is also survived by sisters, Dolena (late Hector) MacKinnon; Jessie (late Lauchie) MacKinnon; Phyllis (late D.J.) Ferguson; Edna (late Gordon) MacLennan; Janet (late Angus) Scott; Willena (Peter) Parker; brother, Jackie (Marie) MacInnis; sisters-in-law, Neila (Joe) Gerrior; Laura MacInnis as well as many nieces and nephews and her cherished friend, Malcolm MacLean.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Mae (Neil) MacKay; Margaret (Neil) Campbell; Laura MacInnis; brothers, Murdock (June); Stewart and Morrison; nephews, Sheldon and Graham MacKay; niece, Deborah MacInnis; grandniece, Ally MacLennan; her ex husband and father to her children, John A. "Jackie" Morrison.
A long time member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and St. Andrew’s Ladies Aid Society. Shirley taught Sunday school and worked diligently on many committees. In 2012 she was honoured by her peers as Volunteer of the Year. She was also a member of Bayville Seniors Club where she enjoyed many card games and cups of hot tea. Shirley worked at various places over the years, Whycocomagh Co-op, Ralph’s Dairy and lastly with Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel in Whycocomagh.
Shirley’s family wish to express sincere gratitude to all who remembered us during this difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Genge, Dr. Ritter, Cathy MacMillan, the staff of Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Home Care nurses, Lisa, Marilyn, Margie, Zelda and Paulette. To all our thoughtful friends and neighbours, your many acts of kindness were much appreciated and will always be remembered.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. on Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in Stewartdale Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
