Mac NEIL, Eileen - Age 96 years. She was born in Antigonish on April 30, 1920, passed away in Ottawa on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Guided by her deep faith and belief in the importance of family and community, she lived a full and rich life in which she played many roles: daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and volunteer. For 94 years she lived in Lower River Inhabitants, a community of which she was fiercely proud and to which she contributed in a myriad of ways including through church, CWL, Home and School Association, Athletic Association, Chamber of Commerce, Hospital volunteer and whatever else needed to be done to make it a little better place to live. Eileen taught in various schools for nine years, and was the long-time manager of the Riverdale Credit Union from which she retired in 1980. She loved nothing better than an evening playing cards, friends dropping in for a cup of tea, music in the community hall, reading, baking, cuddling one of her cats, crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and keeping up on the news. She had over 40 wonderful years with her husband, Kenney, who died in 1989. She will be greatly missed by her son, Michael and daughter- in- law, Helen Beck and her four grandchildren, Ian (Chelsea Pepin), Ross, David and Mark. Her son Kenney Paul (Marlene Eager) died in 1997. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Ann (Tompkins) McCarthy and the beloved sister of Pat, Jessie (Colin Proctor), Anne (Percy Proctor), Sister Mary, Vincent (Gertrude McNamara), Maurice (Dicksey Conrad) and Teresa all of who died before her. She was very fond of her 15 nieces and nephews and their extended families.
