MacKINNON, Florella- Age 76, Hay’s River, Inverness Co. We the family of the late Florella McKinnon, regret to announce her passing on Thursday, August 18, 2016, in the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born on April 16, 1940, she was the eldest daughter of the late Neil Sandy and Jessie (MacInnis) MacKinnon of Hay’s River. She was a member of St. John’s United Church, Strathlorne, the GIL and Bible Study groups. Florella was a Licensed Practical Nurse, having worked in Massachusetts for 10 years before returning home to care for her elderly parents and uncle. She worked as an EKG Technician at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for 28 years. Her patients were always her top priority. She viewed her co-workers as extended family, following their lives with great interest as they progressed through life with marriages, the birth of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a kind and generous person who had great empathy for others. Her nieces and nephews were the children she never had and she loved them dearly. She is survived by her best friend and companion, John Fraser; brothers, Alex (Mayrene), El Paso, Texas; Harvey (Laura), Whycocomagh; sisters, Christene MacDonald, Whycocomagh; Mary (Jim) Lyon, Lock Broom, Pictou Co.; sister-in-law, Helena MacKinnon, London, Ont; nieces, Melody MacKinnon, Krista MacDonald and Lynette (Matt Holland) MacKinnnon; nephews, Steve (late Joy), Brian (Cindy) Paul, Dwayne (Jennifer Gates) MacKinnon and Wendell MacKinnon; grandnieces, Jessica MacKinnon, Amy MacKinnon Jordan MacDonald and Madeline MacKinnon, Annie Holland; grand nephews, Timothy (Mandy) MacKinnon, Declan Holland; great-grandnephew, Samuel MacKinnon. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Rev. Farquhar MacKinnon; niece, Brenda Lee MacDonald; brother-in-law, Gordon MacDonald; as well as numerous aunts and uncles. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. on Monday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. John’s United Church, Strathlorne with Pastor Maggie Plant officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Strathlorne.
