Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MacMillan, Harold A., Canso, Nova Scotia Harold Arnold MacMillan passed away peacefully this past Sunday morning, July 31st, 2016 at Canso Seaside Manor, having been surrounded by the most loving care of his angels there, along with his physician Dr. Cathy Felderhof, leaving behind Rosalie his life’s partner of 66 years, and a fiercely loving family. Born December 11, 1929 in Goldboro, NS, he was the first child and only son of William D. MacMillan and Marjorie B. (Giffin) MacMillan. Learning to drive at an early age, he assisted his father with his local Taxi business for many years as a young man. Married to Rosalie Murphy in 1950, he lived most of his life away from his beloved home of Canso while serving in the Canadian Armed Forces in Calgary, Alberta; London, Ontario; Kingston, Ontario; North Bay Ontario; and Lahr, W. Germany until his retirement in 1984. Harold was a proud, and loving older brother to five younger sisters, then a proud and dedicated father to a tribe of six children, one girl and five boys. Together with his wife Rosalie they nurtured and shared a love of life, friends and family with them around the Canadian military. Always working extra jobs to provide for his brood, he tried his hand at many interesting part-time jobs. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Army Navy Club of Kingston, Ontario, and a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Masonic Temple. Harold was proud of all his children, Bill, Canso; Howie (Debbie) Wellesely, Ontario; Isabel (Bill) James, Canso; Bob (Gayle), Heidelberg, Ontario; Maurice (Gail), North Bay, Ontario; Joe (Danielle) Ramstein, Germany. He is survived by his wife Rosalie, siblings: Kaye Cohoon, Canso; Deanna (Win) Nickerson, Hazel Hill; Barbara (Junior) Filiatault, Lantz, NS; 13 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Billy Mac and Marjorie; sisters, Isabel Munro (1954), Helen MacMillan (1997); brothers- in-law, Donald Cohoon (2012), Gordon Munro (2015). He and Rosalie enjoyed a long, happy, and well travelled retirement all over North America meeting old friends from the military and family, while making new friends wherever they went. At his request cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation.
