MacKENZIE, Dorothy Isabel – 88, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow and formerly of New Glasgow, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012, in patient care in the Aberdeen Hospital. Dorothy was born in Roachvale, Guysborough Co., to the late Roland and Nellie Slater. She was a retired school teacher, teaching in different parts of Pictou Co. She played the organ in church and loved to be there. She also loved her friends that dropped by for a visit. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Brian (Lois), Peterborough Ont; Tory (Elaine), New Glasgow; as well she had many grandchildren and a great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are brother, Douglas Slater; sisters, Ruby and Erna. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander; sisters, Kathleen in infancy; Rose and Ena. Visitation will be held from 12p.m. until 1:15p.m. followed by funeral service at 1:30p.m. on Friday, December 21, all from Guysborough Baptist Church, with Rev. Warren Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough. Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital or to a charity of one’s choice.
