SKINNER, Lloyd Ernest, 60 - Havre Boucher, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, Friday, January 7, 2011 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Lloyd was an inspiration to everyone around him during his 9 year battle with Lymphoma. His strength, courage, and, determination to battle his disease amazed his family, friends, and health-care providers to the end. Lloyd never complained about his illness, despite several recurrences of the cancer which eventually led to him receiving a stem cell transplant in 2008. Born in Owen Sound (Grey Co.), Ontario, Lloyd was a son of the late Ernest and Clara Louise (McNab) Skinner. He was employed as Night Auditor at the Skye Motel in Port Hastings until he was forced to discontinue working in 2007 due to his illness. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 39 years Theresa (DeCoste); daughter, Kimberly (Rickey) White, Hamilton, ON.; son, Joel (Margaret “Jodie”), Monastery, NS.; sisters; June Varley, Sharon Squires, Barbara Marsden, all of Collingwood, ON.; brother, John, Guelph, ON.; grandchildren, Jacob, Reigan, and Daryan. Throughout his life, Lloyd enjoyed playing darts with and especially against Theresa at the Havre Boucher Community Centre. He was also an avid gardener, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, as well as playing a “good” round of golf on the Xbox. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday in St. Paul’s Centre, Havre Boucher. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Church, Havre Boucher. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lymphoma Foundation of Canada or the International Society for Stem Cell Research.
