MacASKILL, Duncan John 'D.J.' - 69, Port Hawkesbury, formerly of West Bay Road, passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, October 20, 2004.
He was a son of the late Duncan and Flora (MacQuarrie) MacAskill. Duncan was a loving father and grandfather. He was a member of St. Mark's United Church, Port Hawkesbury. He enjoyed music, reading and hockey. As a young man he was employed at Stelco Steel Plant in Hamilton, Ont., then returned home to Cape Breton and worked as a wood cutter until he became ill.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Martin); sons, Glenn (Marilyn), Kenny (Cindy), Paul (Kim), all of Port Hawkesbury; daughters, Brenda (Terry) MacInnis, Port Hastings; Sharon (Glenn) Holmes, Mulgrave; Karen (Jerry) O'Brien, Brampton, Ont.; Mary (Peter) Fougere, Port Hawkesbury; Laurie, at home; sisters, Julia (Donald) MacQuarrie, Annie (Edward) MacInnis, both of Port Hawkesbury; Florence (Alex) Hatcher, Askilton; Catherine Gray, Port Hawkesbury; brothers, Murdoch (Elizabeth), Toronto; Dan (Anne), Lower South River; Angus (Pauline), Glenora; 15 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Hughie; sister, Jane Rogers.
Visitation 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Saturday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Mark's United Church, Rev. Wilfred Pelley officiating. Burial will be in Princeville United Church Cemetery.
Donations in memory of D.J. may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, St. Mark's United Church or a charity of choice.
