Leet, Estella G. – 103, Guysborough, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born May 12, 1907 in Mulgrave, NS, she was the daughter of the late John and Roseanne (O’Neill) Brophy. She moved to Guysborough in 1928 to begin her career as a telegrapher which she did until her marriage to Joseph Sherman Leet in 1938 when she became a devoted wife and mother. Over the years, she was involved in parish life, community activities and welcoming friends and family into her home with tea, squares and a game of cards. She remained in the family home, did her daily crossword puzzle and cryptoquote, as well as enjoyed playing scrabble, until the time of her death.
Estella is survived by her children, Patricia (Ed) Taylor, Stellarton; Douglas, Guysborough; William (Bernice), Cole Harbour; Margaret, Calgary; Rosalie (Graham) McAuley, Guysborough; grandchildren, Karen (Doug) Smith, Victoria, BC; Walter (Lena) Taylor, Nanaimo, BC; Andrea Leet (Bob Daigle), Halifax; Ryan Leet, Dartmouth; Jim McAuley, Moncton, NB; Diann McAuley; and Steven (Erine) McAuley, Elmsdale; great–grandchildren, Danielle and Zachary Taylor and Jordan and Benjamin Daigle. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, son Allister, sisters, Mary Kay, Jean MacAskill, Helena MacDonald, Emily Webb, Sister Anne Estelle and brothers, Bernard, Huntley and Douglas. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. - 12 noon Thursday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 17 in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Guysborough with Father Jonathan Nweke officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
