Obituary
Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, nanny and great nana, Florence MacLellan, on Friday, November 7, 2014 in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, with family by her side.
Mom was born on January 7, 1919 on Victoria Road, Dunvegan, Inverness Co, the daughter of Roderick "Rod Rory Archie" and Katie (MacDougall) MacLennan. After graduating from Provincial Normal College, mom taught school in several areas of Inverness County. She was a dedicated member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, S.W. Margaree and sang in the church choir for many years. Florence moved to Antigonish in 1993 where she lived an active life until this year when it was deemed that assisted living would best provide for mom's needs, she was so fortunate to be placed in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home where she happily lived and made so many new and dear friends, until her passing. Throughout her life mom enjoyed walking, travelling, sewing, gardening, crossword puzzles, playing bridge and auction, she was an avid reader, an awesome cook and baker, picked and cooked every berry you could imagine, she had a keen interest in genealogy and the Gaelic language, commenting often, "a story sounds so much better in Gaelic". She enjoyed social gatherings of all kinds especially when family and friends were present. Mom sang with the Inverness County Gaelic singers enjoying many years of fun and laughter with this close knit group. She was well known for her strong faith, positive outlook on life and great sense of humor.
Mom is survived by her children, Clarry (Donna), Burlington, Ont.; Rhoda (Bill Lawlor), Bedford; Gus (Debbie), Truro; Danny (Carla), Halifax; Debi (Arnie Farrell), Antigonish. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten by her grandchildren, James (Sandra), Kim, Allan (Amy), Michael, Daniel (Amy), Craig (Kate), Ian (Kristen), Steve (Mary Helen), Ryan (Holly), Lindzie (Ryan), Brad (Sara), Dion (Meaghan), Paul, Mark and Heather. Her loving great grandchildren, who will miss their nanny and all her wisdom so much, William, Nicholas, Ivy, Louis, Simon, Sophie, Emma, Connor, Gillian, Luke, Abigail, Brady, Rylyn, Lukas, Scarlette, Marissa, Jessica, Jaeda, Rhya and Isla Faye. Florence is survived by her brother, Angus MacLennan (Glenna), Toronto. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews of whom mom was so proud of and enjoyed their phone calls, cards and visits. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Dan MacLellan, her sisters, Margaret, Mary Jessie, Betty, Teresa, Lexina, brothers, Fr. Alex and Hughie.
Heartfelt thanks and sincere gratitude to the residents and staff of Chisholm Wing, Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, for the kindness and compassion you showed to mom and truly welcomed her into your home and made it her home, as well thank you for the support you provided our family during her last days. A sincere thank you to Dr. Sturmy and Maryann, for the warm welcome you always extended to mom on her visits to your office.

Margaree on her beloved island of Cape Breton, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015 with her nephew Fr. Danny MacLennan officiating.
