Obituary
Please share a memory of Malinda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
McNAMARA (MacDonald), Malinda Margaret-98, formerly of Whiteside, Richmond Co., passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, in the White Hills Long Term Care Facility in Hammonds Plains. Born in Whiteside, on September 22, 1917, she was a daughter of the late William and Jane (Cameron) MacDonald.
She married Joseph "Len" McNamara and moved with him to Halifax with 2 small children in tow, early in their marriage. They went on to have 11 more children. Len was owner/operator of J.L. McNamara Carpets and Upholstery, while Malinda was happy to be at home raising their 13 children. Their love and respect for each other was the backbone of the supportive home they provided for their family. Malinda was happiest when surrounded by her family. She was blessed with a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of who could do no wrong! Although she made a point of never interfering in the lives of her grown children, she was known on occasion to come to the defence of a wayward grandchild. Malinda lived the adage "If you have nothing nice to say..." and abhorred gossip of all kinds. She was a positive, loving presence in all of our lives who showed such gratitude for the smallest acts of kindness. We were all so blessed to have the privilege of calling her Mom, Nan, Nanna,Nanny Mac or just Mac!
Malinda was predeceased by her husband, Joseph "Len" McNamara; sons, Carl in infancy and William; grandson, Robbie; parents, William and Jane MacDonald; brothers, Roderick and Cameron MacDonald; daughter-in-law, Heather McNamara; sons-in-law, Douglas Goodrich and Carl McNamara. Left to mourn and treasure the memories are her children, Alice Goodrich, California; Paula (Tom) Chisholm, Whiteside; Gertrude (Fred) Sole, Waterloo, Ont; Carl (Diane) McNamara, Halifax; Linda (Bob) Deveau, Halifax; Rod (Betty) McNamara, New Glasgow; Eileen McNamara, Whiteside; Gerald (Cathy) McNamara, Port Elgin; Debbie (Gary) McNamara, Halifax; Dale (Joanne) McNamara, Halifax; Gale (Don) Cyr, Port Hawkesbury; Wayne (Donna) McNamara, Lower River Inhabitants, daughter-in-law, Elaine McNamara, Halifax; 32 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, who all held a special place in her heart.
Malinda’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to all the staff at White Hills Long Term Care Facility. The kind and gentle attention you gave to our mom over the last 14 months did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. You are all truly special people.
