McNAMARA, Valerie Marie – Whiteside, Richmond Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Marie McNamara, on Friday, October 3, 2014, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. She was born July 9, 1931, in Dominion, Cape Breton. She is a daughter of the late Ronald and Mary Lillian (McNamara) Dobbin. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Raymond; sons, Jerry, Sydney NSW, Australia; Shaun, Whiteside; brother, Ronald Dobbin; sisters, Mary (Paul) MacDonald, Carmel Scanlan, Anne (Tony) Landry, Margaret (Neil) Moran, Diane (Kenneth) MacDonald, Jean (Larry) Smith and Paula (Larry) Orbell. She was predeceased by infant daughter, Mary Deborah Ann; brothers, Dan and Charles Dobbin. She worked for several years at the Wandlyn in Port Hawkesbury, as well as several years in the rent a car business. She worked as a volunteer with St. Francis de Sales CWL. She served several years as a member of the board of directors of the Riverdale Credit Union. She also served as chairperson of the St. Francis de Sales centennial committee. She took great pride in her volunteering with Palliative Care at the Strait Richmond Hospital. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 10, from St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants with Father Callistus Abazie officiating. Burial in St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery, Whiteside. Memorial donations may be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society or to St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fund, Whiteside.
