MUNRO, George Wood MacLean – 90, Whycocomagh, passed away peacefully at home, on Thursday, January 31, 2013. Born in Whycocomagh, George was the son of the late John S. and Jessie (MacSween) Munro. George enjoyed being raised and working on the family farm for many years. In 1945 George married his loving wife of 67 years, Gladys Christena (Gillis), of Skye Glen. George’s passion extended to the trucking business which brought him to a happy retirement at 65 years of age. He was an active member of the Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh. George is survived by his wife, Gladys; sons, Calvin (Jean), Gordon (Isabel) and Jerry (Elsie); daughter-in-law, Nelly; brothers, Stewart (Cindy) and Robert (Norma); sister-in-law, Miriam and brother-in-law, Murray, all of Whycocomagh. Grampie will be sorrowfully missed by his grandchildren, Jamie, Blair, Linda (Darren), Diana (Curtis), Suzanne (Kevin) and Gloria Dawn (David), along with great-grandchildren, Colby, Madison and Scotia. George was predeceased by his parents; son, Graham; brothers, Alcorn and Donnie; sisters, Lorraine, Jean and Ruth; brothers-in-law, Clarke and Donald. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-9pm in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 2pm Sunday, from Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh, with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial in Stewartdale cemetery. One of George’s greatest attributes was the love and care that he gave his family and friends. Memorial donations can be given in support of George’s nephew, Greg Munro, who is currently receiving treatment in Hospital. (George was an avid supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays and his delight in teasing, quick wit, wonderful sense of humour and his endearing friendship will be greatly missed by all who were on the receiving end of life’s precious gifts.)
