MacLean, Hugh Michael, It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden Passing of Hugh " Hughie" Michael MacLean, 60 of Port Hawkesbury formerly of River Denys on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at home. Hughie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He was the son of the late Dan (Eoghan) MacLean and Isabel Gillis. He was a long time member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 721. He worked as a crane operator for the past 35 years. As a crane operator his career took him throughout the Maritimes, Western and Northern Canada. Hughie enjoyed spending time "playing" at his gravel pit in Big Brook and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving common –law wife of 20 years, Doris (Reynolds) Richard, his children, Ian (Wanda) MacLean, Queensville; Angela (Raymond) MacKenzie, Ottawa, Ontario; grandchildren, Mitchell, Mya and Mason MacLean, Chloe and Samantha MacKenzie; his extended family, Andrea (John) MacLean, Lori (Michael) Foster; special grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon, Blake and Emma. Also the mother of his children, Marilyn (Campbell) MacLean, Malagawatch; his sister, Lillian MacIntyre, Niagara Falls, Ontario; sister-in-law, Eleanor MacDonald, Blues Mills and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Florence and Nellie, brother, Duncan and Infant granddaughter, Abbey MacLean. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Hughie will be held 2-9 p.m., Sunday, March 25, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., Monday from St. Dionysius Roman Catholic Church, River Denys, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Dionysius Parish Cemetery, River Denys at a later date. Family Flowers only please. Donations in Hughie’s memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, St. Dionysius Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.
