MACLEAN, Margaret Alicia - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Margaret Alicia (Nicolle) MacLean, 88, of Mulgrave, which occurred Thursday, November 24, 2011 in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born in Trenton, Alicia was a daughter of the late Walter and Annie Mae (O’Neill) Nicolle, and lived most of her life in Mulgrave. The last 24 years Alicia resided with her daughter Debbie, son-in-law Basil and her devoted grandsons Evan and Travis King. During her youth she worked for her grandfather in his general store in Mulgrave. She entered the Armed Services during WWII and in later years worked for Acadia Fisheries at their plant in Mulgrave. She also worked at Campbell’s Drug Store in Port Hawkesbury and later at Eastern Counties Regional Library until her retirement. Alicia was very active in her community and church. She served as Councillor and Deputy Mayor for the town of Mulgrave. She was appointed a member of the Strait Richmond Hospital Board, a member of the Mulgrave and Area Medical Center Committee and former president of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #37 Mulgrave. She played an active role with the Mulgrave Girl Guides. Alicia was a former member of the Mulgrave Memorial Board of School Commissioners. She was also a member of the CWL for over 25 years and was lector at St. Lawrence Church into her 85th year. She was a big sports fan, from the Montreal Canadiens to the Strait Minor Hockey games played by her grandsons. Alicia is survived by six daughters, Peggy (Paul) Usenica, Joan Decker, both of Hamilton Ont; Betty (Barry) Doucette, Pickering Ont; Sharon Gilmor, Hamilton Ont; Debbie (Basil) King, Mulgrave; Lydia Agnew, Pickering Ont; sisters, Lorraine Henry, Faith Campbell, both of Mulgrave; brother, Clayton (Carol) Nicolle, Hamilton Ont; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, 1 sister, 1 granddaughter and one great-grandson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Glenn Gallivan, Dr. James Collins and staff at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassion. Visitation will be held 2-9p.m. Sunday, November 27, in the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place, Mulgrave. Funeral Mass will be held 2p.m. Monday from St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Private family burial at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Lawrence Cemetery Fund, or to Mulgrave and Area Resting Place. Funeral arrangements for Alicia are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
