POWER, Fabian Michael – 67, Mulgrave, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, in Mulgrave. Born in St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish to the late Arthur and Catherine (Richard) Power. He grew up in Mulgrave and lived there all of his life. He is survived by his former wife, Eileen (Purcell); daughter, Faye; son, Todd and his wife Lori Anne (Henwood), grandsons, Mackenzie and Garrett; sisters, Betty Hearn, Veronica Welsh and Yvonne Breen; brothers, Melvin "Sonny" (Petra), Wallace, Richard (Agnes), Robert (Rosemary) and Cyril (Bev). Besides his Mom and Dad, he was predeceased by his special nephew, Pat Hearn Jr.; brother-in-law, Pat Hearn Sr.; sister-in-law, Mary Power. In his lifetime he was employed at Acadia Fisheries, Stevedoring at the wharf for various companies, forklift operator for Shell Canada and other oil companies, Mulgrave Machine Works and the last job being with the Town of Mulgrave. He was a member of the Mulgrave Legion, the CB of RT and GW member and Sergeant of Arms of the Mulgrave Kinsmen. He got a big kick out of taking Kinsmen’s S for not following the rules. Fabian grew up loving the water in the Strait of Canso, it was his closest friend. Younger, being a strong swimmer he would dive for people’s lost items and of course, lobsters. He was also an avid tuna fisherman. He believed himself a skilled card player, especially crib when he would crow that he was the "champ of the harbour". He was a true friend. He never refused anyone who asked for help. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 21 in the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place, Mulgrave. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday from St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. After the funeral mass, Fabian’s family invite you to a gathering for a light lunch at the Mulgrave Fire Hall. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place or to a charity of one’s choice.
