Please share a memory of Eugene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SIMPSON, Eugene Ellis, 84 - It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Eugene Ellis Simpson on May 6, 2006 at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Manchester, NS on April 20, 1922, he was a son of the late Robie Alphonso and Marguerite Ellis (MacMaster) Simpson.
Eugene lived in Boylston, Guysborough County, until 1951, when he moved to Lynn, Massachusetts. He worked at Boston Machine Works for 23 years and was able to advance from an engineering aide to working in research and development. He returned to Boylston in 1974, where one of his proudest accomplishments was the part he had in the design and building of the Lion's Community Center in Guysborough. He then moved to Antigonish with his wife in 1996 and to Lower Sackville to be with his family in 2001.
Eugene was a member of Boyslston United Church since 1980, and prior to that a member of the First Methodist Church in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was a past Master of the Eastern Light Lodge, No. 72, in Guysborough, Nova Scotia and a past District Deputy Grandmaster for the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia, Guysborough-Antigonish District. In October he received his 60-year Masonic pin. Eugene also belonged to the Aleppo Temple and Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Boston.
Eugene will be remembered for his love of boating and fishing. He had many fond memories of spending his time at his woods camp, traveling to Oak Springs Park in Port Richey, Florida and especially of summer afternoons on the deck at his cottage in Boylston.
Eugene is survived by his daughter Sharon and son-in-law Ronald Cleary, Lower Sackville; grandchildren Rhonda (Tony) Pilon, Mount Uniacke and Ryan Cleary, Grande Prairie, AB; an uncle, Wilbur Cummings, Guysborough, NS; sisters-in-law Edna Simpson, Guysborough and Bessie Simpson, Manchester, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sophie Claire (Morrow) and brothers Sidney Alexander and Douglas Robie.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday May 11th at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home in Guysborough. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12th at 2 p.m. in Boylston United Church, Reverend Leonard Oracheski officiating. Family flowers only. Donations made in Eugene's memory to the Dialysis Unit at the QEII Health Sciences Centre or Boylston United Church would be appreciated. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee,
God wanted me now, he set me free.
