RYAN (Horne), Elizabeth "Betty" of Canso. It is with overwhelming sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Betty Ryan, at the age of 70, on Saturday, February 13, 2016 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born on August 13, 1945, in Canso to the late William and Geraldine (Parker) Horne. She is survived by her two daughters, Rhonda Michelle (David) Hanhams, of Canso and Wanda (Kevin) O’Handley, of Hazel Hill and her brother, Bernard (Pick) Horne of Canso. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James, Courtney, Meaghan, Ryan, Andrew, Celina and Savannah and great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Arrianna, Abigail, Sophie and Josie. She will also be dearly missed by her cousins, her nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, friends and extended family. Betty was predeceased by her parents, William and Geraldine (Parker) Horne, her son, Kevin Ryan of New Brunswick, and her brother William (Beatrice) Horne of Larry’s River. Betty went to work at an early age at the Canso Hospital to assist in providing for her family. Later in life, she finished her education and was employed at the Hazel Hill Nursing Home as a PCW and then spent the remainder of her career at the Milford Haven Nursing Home in Guysborough. She was generous and charitable with organizations, family and friends, those less fortunate and those who just needed a warm hand and a kind heart. She would reach out to anyone she thought she could help. Her most glorious gift to the world was her sense of humor. She believed life was meant to be lived with laughter and shared it freely with everyone. May we continue to shine the way that she did. Visitation will be Thursday, February 18th from 7pm – 9pm. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 19th, 2016 at 11am from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in Canso with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Family flowers only.
