RYAN, George David - 59, Canso, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born in Durrell’s Island, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late James J. and Sadie E. (Mason) Ryan. George was a fisherman; he was also a member of Star of the Sea Parish, Canso; a former member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 46, Canso and a member of the Fisherman’s Co-op Association. He is survived by his brothers, Patrick (Margaret), Milton, Ont.; Billy, Antigonish; Douglas (Adele), North Carleton, P.E.I.; Kenny (Nancy) and Gordon both of Bridgewater. George is survived by good friends, Rita Johnson and her daughter and her grandchildren. He is also survived by three aunts and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by brothers, Frank, Ivan, Arthur, Joe and Frederick. The family would like to say a special Thank you to all of George’s friends who helped him in any way during his illness. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
