Scanlan, Joseph Edward "Joe" – 78, of Whiteside, Richmond Co. passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept 21 2011, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Walkerville, Richmond Co. he was a son of the late Joseph Edward and Mary Louise (Poirier) Scanlan. He was a retired employee of Stora Forest Industries. He loved his family, was a friend to all and a staunch supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Montreal Canadians.
He is survived by his wife Teresa Carmel (Dobbin) Scanlan; daughters, Debbie (Brian) McCarthy of Lower River Inhabitants, Linda (Kenneth) Ferguson of Wicklow, NB, Cathy (Tom) McNamara of Hureauville, Wanda (Shane) Meisner of Sherbrooke, NS; sons Terrance (Marie) of Sydney, Ronnie (Jessie) of Whiteside, Gary (Lynn) of Whiteside, Derek (Marilyn) Port Alberni BC; grandchildren Angie (Tony) Calderone, Vincent (Holly) McCarthy, Emma Ferguson, Jared Ferguson, Bryan McNamara, Cory McNamara, Lindsay McNamara, Lauren Meisner, Kalen Meisner, Liam (Karen) Scanlan, Nevin Scanlan, Adam Scanlan, Danielle Scanlan, Megan Scanlan, Nathan Scanlan, Abby Scanlan, Darian Scanlan; sisters Sheila Scanlan, Phyllis (Hughie) MacDonnell; brother Elmer (Delima) Scanlan.
Visitation will be from 2 – 9p.m. Saturday September 24th in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants, on Monday at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery,Whiteside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
