The death of Elsie Maude (MacIntosh) Sceles occurred in the Milford Haven Home for Special Care , Guysborough on Monday, April 24th, 2006. She was born in Port Shoreham on July 5, 1902 to Edmund and Bertha ( Hadley)MacIntosh. Elsie graduated from Normal College, Truro in 1922. She taught school in several Nova Scotia communities including ; Little River, Brooklyn, Sherbrooke, New Harbour, Cooks Cove, Middle Manchester, Boylston and Port Shoreham. She also worked briefly at Eaton's mail order in Moncton. In 1931 she married Wilfred Sceles and settled in Port Shoreham where they were blessed with two daughters. Elsie was Postmistress in Port Shoreham for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed photography, handicrafts, music and people. She had a deep faith in God and served her church in many ways including organist of Port Shoreham United Church for several years; President and Secretary /Treasurer of UCW and Sunday School Teacher. Elsie was a 30 plus year survivor of breast cancer. Following the death of Wilfred in 1982, she spent the summers in Port Shoreham and the winters with her daughters in Dartmouth. The highlight of those years was playing hostess to all her summer visitors. Elsie is survived by daughters Dorothy (Ralph) Sams and Ruby Dowling (David Stewart), both residing in Dartmouth. She is survived by five grandchildren; Juanita, Rowena (Peter), Kelvin (LouAnn), Marcella (Danny) and Diana (Andrew). She is survived by six great grandchildren; Bradley, Jacob, Corey, Amy, Margaret and Lydia. Also by many neices and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by husband Wilfred, brother Harold, sister Ida, sister Hope (in infancy) and son-in-law Arthur Dowling.
Visitation Thursday from 2:00pm until 9:00pm. at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service Friday, April 28th at 2:00pm from Boylston United Church with Rev. Leonard Oracheski officiating, burial in Manchester Cemetery. A reception will follow at Boylston Seniors Center. Donations in Elsie's memory will be appreciated and may be made to: Boylston United Church, Milford Haven Home for Special Care or Guysborough Memorial Hospital. The family are deeply indebted to Dr. Anita Foley and her staff at Guysborough Memorial and Shirley Nixon and his staff at Milford Haven for the loving and excellent care they provided.
