SWAIN, Dorothy Elizabeth - 85, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Monday, October 4, 2004, in Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney. Born October 2, 1919, in Linwood, Antigonish Co., she was the eldest daughter of the late Allan and Sabina (Atwater) Kinney. She is survived by daughter, Hilda Leadbetter, Port Hood; son, Fred (Kaye), Dartmouth; grandchildren, David (Katherine), Vancouver, B.C.; Stephen, Halifax; Matthew, Dartmouth; Cynthia (Alan) and Charles; sisters, Connie, Merigomish; Marjorie, Dartmouth; brothers, Angus (Bonnie), Sydney; Millard (Hilda), Steep Creek; Clayton, Sherbrooke. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Henry; two infant sons and an infant sister, Irene; sister, Elsie MacDonald; brother, John Kinney. Prior to her illness, Dot liked to play cards, bingo and knit socks and mitts which she donated to the needy. She was employed for a number of years as the maintenance superintendent at Port Hastings School.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, October 7, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Reeves Street, Port Hawkesbury, Rev. Michael Conrad officiating. Burial will be in Southbrook Cemetery. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory of Dot may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Special thanks to the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care and Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Mom, Dot, Nan, will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
