TONEY, M. Dianne - 63, We'koqma'q First Nation, passed away Monday, May 15, 2006, at home. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Susan (GooGoo) Toney.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, We'koqma'q. Dianne received a degree in Mikma'q from U.C.C.B. and enjoyed her travels abroad. She was well-known for her artistic quill work and photography. Dianne was very rich in her native language, culture and a great teacher sharing with young and old. She had a great sense of humour. She is survived by her partner, Dave Knockwood; son, Calvin Poulette; stepson, Richard Joe (Delores) Phillips, both of We'koma'q; stepdaughters, Angela (Kenneth) GooGoo, Andrea (Dave) Paul, both of We'koma'q; daughter-in-law Dina Mae Poulette Eskasoni; sisters, Lena (Lawrence) Bernard, Juanita (Dan J.) Paul, Grace (Joe Mike) Paul, Jacqueline Toney and son Morgan, all of We'koma'q; sisters-in-law, Laura "Elizabeth" Toney, Clara Phillips, both of We'koma'q; Christine GooGoo, Eskasoni; Shirley, Germaine, Louise, Mildred, Moxey and Audrey, all of Eskasoni; brothers, Lloyd, Margaree; Benedict (Annie Jane), Albert, Fabian (Ericka Bernard), all of We'koma'q; Bartholomew, Halifax; brother-in-law, Roddie Phillips, We'koma'q; Brandon and Richard, Eskasoni; Charles, Afton; mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Phillips, We'koma'q; grandchildren, Danielle Poulette, MacKenzie Poulette, Tekakwitha (Poulette) Johnson, Abagail GooGoo, Jake Mac Donald, Andre Zane Marshall; seven godchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by first husband, Raymond Poulette; second husband, Richard Phillips; sons, Kevin D. Poulette, Raymond G. Poulette; daughter, Sonya Marie Poulette; brother, John Joseph Toney; sister-in-law, Caroline Phillips.
Dianne will rest at the family residence, 393 Reservation Rd., We'koma'q, after 2 p.m. Thursday. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Father Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
