WILLIAMS (Crittenden), Lillian - 108, Mulgrave, passed away peacefully September 16, 2006, in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born June 16, 1898, in Mulgrave, she was the ninth of twelve children of the late Ella Lavinia (Whitman) and Charles Alfred Crittenden. She resided in Mulgrave for most of her long and very active life. She was the mother of eight, grandmother of 11, great-grandmother of 17 and great great-grandmother of two. She held public office for 16 years, as a councilor for the Town of Mulgrave and as Deputy Mayor for two terms. She was one of the first female councilors in Nova Scotia. In 1993, she was awarded the Canada 125 Commemorative Medal in recognition of her many contributions to serving others while in public office, and through her involvement with the community, social and charitable organizations. A collection of her poetry, “Poems from Shanty-by-the-Sea”, was printed on the occasion of her 108th birthday. She is survived by her daughters, Mamie MacKenzie, Irene Brydges and Shirley Picken, and by her sons, Earle and Gary. She was predeceased by her husband, Aubrey Charles Williams; her son, Sumner, and her daughters, Mona Higgins and Bernice Williams. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, in Trinity United Church in her beloved Mulgrave, Rev. James Chisholm and Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Family flowers only please. If desired, donations may be made to the Trinity United Church Repair Fund, Mulgrave, or to the charity of your choice.
