MURRAY, John Irvin "Trapper John" - 86, Mulgrave, died at home on Wednesday, August 23, 2006. Born in Mulgrave, he was a son of the late Bryant and Sophia (Begin) Murray.
John was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with North Nova's and Cape Breton Highlanders in North Africa, Italy and Germany; he was also a prisoner of war for 16 months. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Cambrai Branch 37, Mulgrave.
Surviving are his wife, Jean (Warner) Murray; daughters, Lynda (Don) Carter, Port Hawkesbury; Mitzie (Wayne) Wyre, West Bay Road; Carla (Placide) Chaisson, Truro; Doreen (Harris) McNamara, Havre Boucher; Valerie (Mark) Rose, Thunder Bay, Ont.; sons, Ervin (Bernadette), Guysborough Intervale; adopted son, John Durant, Hamilton, Ont.; nephew, Eldrige Murray, Sydney; grandchildren, J.D., Jeana, April, Joseph, Lindsay, Ryan, Meaghan, Heather, Drew, Jonathan, Austin; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Emma, Kayden. Trapper John was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by sisters, Mabel, Abbie, Bertie, Augusta, and Agnes; brothers, Joseph, Wilbert, and James.
Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. today in Mulgrave and Area Resting Place. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, with Father Jude Nzekwe officiating, assisted by Rev. Tory Byrne. Burial in Saint Andrews Cemetery Mulgrave. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the ACW or Mulgrave and Area Resting Place.
