O'Neill, Mary Margaret (Mahoney) ---- 99, Mulgrave, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Born in Antigonish Harbour on April 13, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Gillis) Mahoney. On completing studies at Mount St. Bernard College, and for several years prior to her marriage, she taught in Antigonish County schools. Returning to the classroom during the late 60's, she held classes in English as a Second Language for Mulgrave's New Canadians. Mary was a long-time member of the CWL of St. Lawrence Parish in Mulgrave. A very gracious lady, and a woman of deep faith, she was always ready to come to the aid of those in need. A true believer in the value of education, she was a lifelong learner, an avid reader and remained a crossword enthusiast into her 90's. She is survived by daughters, Monica (Wes) Adams, Dartmouth; Anne (Terrance) Campbell, Sydney; Donna (Terry) Gordon, Okotoks, Alberta; sons, Reverend Lloyd O'Neill, Halifax; Joseph (Patricia), Hanwell, New Brunswick; Brian (Mary), Mulgrave; 11 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene; son, Terrance; sister, Eva and brother-in law Leonard O'Neil; brothers, John (and his wife Nadine) and William Mahoney; one brother James John in early childhood. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in Mulgrave and Area Resting Place. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, officiated by Father Lloyd O'Neill. Burial will take place in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Lawrence Cemetery Fund. At this time the family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Alderwood Rest Home for the excellent care our mother received during the past three years. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com Any good thing that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to another human being, no matter how unimportant he seems, let me do it now. In memory of Mary please smile and do an act of kindness for someone. “Whatever you do for the least of these, My Brethren, you do for Me.”
