My father, Frank, enjoyed a close friendship with Ed for 50 years. As a kid, we'd vacation a few weeks each summer to Steep Creek to the old family homestead. I remember meeting him when I was about 6 (1962?) and going to the "very smelly" fish plant in Mulgrave. My Dad bought me a nice blue and orange colored fishing pole for my birthday, which we tried out with Eddy at Critchett Lake. He admired it so much Dad gave it to him. I hoped he never caught another fish, ever! :)
Despite my initial misgivings, Eddy turned out to be a great guy. His heart and laugh were as big as he. He shall be sorely missed by all who ever met him. Sincere condolences to the whole family.

So sorry to read of your dad's death. He was a character in so many ways. Kind, considerate and caring are three adjectives which come to mind to describe this larger-than-life gentleman. I knew Ed for over 20 years, first from working in the fishing industry. An entertaining and appreciated phone call in the first few days of the Covid lockdown turned into countless hours of conversations of increasing frequency over the last two and a half years. He always had some interesting stories to tell. I got to spend a day with him on my first ever visit to Guysborough just over a year ago. He took me on a tour that covered about half the county while entertaining me with more stories along the way. What a day I will never forget. It ended with one of those famous hugs . . .
To all his family who were everything to him, I offer my deepest condolences.

Denise and Family,
We are so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing.
It does not seem that long ago he was visiting us in Half Island Cove, enjoying cookies, coffee, and laughing while reminiscing over the many years of memories he and my dad had together. Fishing and fisheries was always the centre of their conversations.
He also so proudly told us of the great care and meals you provided and shared as well as how good all his family was to him.
Dad too wishes to pass along his sincere condolences and great sadness of losing such a great friend.
May the many memories of happy times provide comfort as well as knowing so many others care and share in your loss.
Pam, Norm and Bruce

I will always have wonderful memories of Ed from the first time I answered one of his calls over 20 years ago. We were work besties, and I always looked forward to his visits to the office. He was one of the kindest and funniest person I've had the pleasure of knowing. His bear hugs would make my day, and he put the "gentle" into "Gentleman". You will be sorely missed Ed, but it's time to rejoin Gen - she's been waiting for you.

One of my favourite memories of Uncle Eddie is when he took Dad, Adam, and I (as teenagers) out in Guysborough harbour one Sunday evening for an impromptu boat ride. We started jigging mackerel which led to the most fun fishing I have ever had! and an enduring memory. Thank you Eddie!
