Our deepest condolences to Karen and family. My fondest memory of cousin Bernie was when I would visit with Charlotte. The three of us would do the dishes and Bernie would fling the wet dish towel at us and of course we would squeal until Aunt Rita came into the kitchen.

Dear Mattie Family.
Our loving thoughts and deepest sympathy to all of the Mattie Family.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Bernie in person but I loved whenever Cameryn and Julian would come back from a visit to Cape Breton full of smiles and beautiful stories of their adventures with Grandpa. Whether it be fishing, walking in the woods or gorilla potato picking they were always inspired by his wisdom, his knowledge of the living world that surrounded him and his generous and loving heart.
Cameryn's memories of her Grandpa Bernie are always filled with stories of how he has been someone in her life that always supported her, wanted to be with her and made her feel special. It broke my heart to hear her tell me about the large stone he never had a chance to give to her in person.
That kind of love, trust and friendship is a beautiful testimony to Bernie's lasting legacy. He will be alive in the waves of the ocean, the blueness of the sky and in the love and kindness that he shared with all of you. I am so sorry for your loss. With much love to all of you at this time of sorrow and transition.
The Krizsan Family

My condolences and prayers to all of Bernie's family and close friends. I spoke with him at Ethel's funeral on October 19th and it had been a while since I had seen him. One memory to share is that Bernie collected subscriber funds from people who received The Chronicle Herald, in his younger days. When he decided to cease that task that required walking fairly long distances, he asked me to do it and that was my first, pre-teen, income-earning activity. I felt lucky to have a tiny bit of money! May he rest in God's arms and rejoice in the company of the angels and all the family and friends who have gone before him.
