Q: How did you meet Roland?
A: Myles was my principal in elementary school who always had a friendly way which when you are young means everything. His genuine unique way of making people feel special was his gift. He always tried to connect even years later to students which is so special and thoughtful. My condolences to the family. Rest In Peace Mr. MacDonald.

My condolences to Miles' family. I was surprised and saddened to see of his passing in the Journal. I got to work with and know Miles through our work as architects for Chedabucto Place School and the Theatre. It was a pleasure to get to know Miles and work with him through those projects. He was always so positive and the project team greatly benefited from his input and knowledge. I will always remember his smile and warm greeting any time we would meet.

Dear Donna,
We extend our deepest sympathy to you, your children and grandchildren. We were so saddened to hear of Miles passing. We know this is a difficult time as you adjust to this huge loss in your life. We are sorry that we were not able to attend the Celebration of his life but I was coaching my grandson's hockey game out of town on Saturday (I know that Miles, "the ultimate coach himself would understand and give me a pass!). Please know however that our thoughts, prayers, and tears were shared with you all as we recalled many fond memories and happy moments spent with Miles. Miles represented the best in humanity. He was an outstanding educator, a generous and spirited community member and leader, an advocate for others, and a genuine mentor to all who needed encouragement and guidance. His interactions with you always left you feeling hopeful and content and looking forward to the next conversation. This was only one of his many special gifts. He is at peace now. May you continue to feel his loving presence with you. I know whenever we think about Miles and the happy times we shared, we will continue to smile in his memory, as he would want us to do.
In sincere sympathy,
Phonse & Angela Gillis, Antigonish, NS.

Donna, Aaron, Lori and Joel,
Words cannot express how sad I was to hear the news. I have only great memories of Miles. He was always there. At school, at one sports event or another, driving Ian Aaron Wade and I to some lifeguarding course or another, or taking us to work at the lake. On the odd occasion that I would see him in Guysborough since I moved away, he was always such a pleasant person to see and speak with. He will be missed and I am thinking of you.

My name is Beth Marsh (sister to Karen Delorey, Larry's River) and while living in Larry's River 2010-2015 I had many reasons to take in the entertainment in Guysborough. Miles was always the happy face who greeted me and the usher who knew exactly where my seat was. It was always a pleasure to see him at those events. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Donna and family, our hearts are broken with the passing of Miles. He was such a such a go getter who managed to get things done when others had given up. He was also a "giver" who gave so much of himself in everything he did, from school, sports, performance centre and the the whole community; the list could go on forever. Everyone who knew Miles shares in your loss. We will miss that smile. God Bless all of you Billy and Joann Luddington

Miles was a passionate community supporter, and the Guysborough Historical Society was fortunate that Miles supported the work of the society both privately and during his time on council. He was present for special events at the Old Courthouse Museum and will be fondly remembered for his drop-in visits both to the museum and the Visitor Information Centre. We will miss his smile, enthusiasm, and support. We extend our deepest sympathies to Donna, Lori, Aaron, Joel, and families for your loss.

Heartfelt condolences to Donna and family of Mr. MacDonald.
I am so sorry for your loss, Mr. MacDonald was such an outstanding man and simply an extraordinary human-being.
This world and our community was a better place because he was in it.
His legacy will live on and be reflected in future generations of individuals who’s lives have been touched in some way by this warm-hearted man.
I recognize that this is a tremendous loss for his family, first and foremost.
This loss has also devastated everyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing him, including myself.
The best part of growing up and being part of the Guysborough/Boylston community, is that it truly felt like we were all part of one really big extended family.
Mr. MacDonald was one of the main individuals, instrumental in making everyone in the community feel like family.
I had the pleasure of having him as an educator in the sixth grade. He had a remarkable way of making me and every other student feel special and like they really mattered.
For many years, I often felt like I was one of his “favorite students”,however I realized he went out his way to make EVERY kid feel like they were #1.
Growing up he inspired me in many ways, he was the first person to put a microphone in my hands and help me discover that I could use my voice and my silly ideas to entertain people. Who knew I could get paid for excelling as the class clown?
His commitment to the school, all the students, their parents and the community as a whole, was second to none.
I appreciate your kindness, your encouragement, your mentoring and for always being so supportive of me.
Initially for me Mr. MacDonald was an intimidating authority figure and educator, he had a no nonsense style but he also had a gentle spirit.
As the year's passed he was more than just my former elementary school principal, he became someone I fondly referred to as a friend, as well as one of my
biggest hometown heroes. He will be missed more than words can say.
As I say GodSpeed to this amazing gift of a man, I will say
Thank you Mr. MacDonald for sharing your wisdom
and compassion throughout our
community.

Donna, Lori, Arron, Joel as well as your families - this is very heartbreaking, my heartfelt condolences - your Dad was one of those people that was always interested in 'whatever anyone was doing, would help you by offering the best advice possible. He 'became' a true Guysborough representative with everything he was involved with / in. With his passing its a big loss to all of the area. Miles was an 'educator' in each organization he was involved in, while doing so with such ease. God certainly has chosen a wonderful angel when he chose Miles! God's many Blessings to everyone.
