Obituary of John Alexander Grant

GRANT, John Alexander, 87, of Lesterdale, Guysborough County, passed away on February 8, 2023 at home. John was born on August 8, 1935, in Guysborough, and was the son of the late John and Hilda (O'Connor) Grant.

Although John lived in Spryfield, Halifax County for several years, his heart belonged to Guysborough County, and he was never happier than when the family was able to move back to Lesterdale. John’s greatest enjoyment was being outside in nature and working with his hands. He spent his time in the woods or working on his gardens. He was always very generous with his vegetable yield, and many in the community were the grateful recipients of his bounty. John was a quiet man of faith, and a member of the Catholic Church. He delivered “meals-on-wheels” for many years and enjoyed a rousing game of cards. He loved music and played the fiddle, and nothing made him happier than a road trip to Cape Breton to take in a ceilidh or concert with his wife Evelyn.

Most evenings, John could be found with his loving cat Felix snuggled up by his side. John was blessed to have close neighbors and friends who loved him, and whom he considered family.He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn (Fraser) Grant, and the absolute apple of his eye, daughter Janice Grant. 

There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at 11am on Monday, February 13th, 2023 at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Guysborough.  Burial to follow in Guysborough Intervale.
