Obituary of Anna Margaret Snow
Anna Margaret (Casey) Snow
Monday June 3rd 1935- Sunday February 12th, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our lovely mother and grandmother. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12th, 2023 with family by her side. It is not surprising that she left us before the big nor’easter pounded us with lots of snow and wind. She hated any type of storm so she had to go before that storm made its entrance. Mom was born in Port Felix N.S. to Mary (Bond) and Ernest Casey. Her family decided to make a move to Canso where they lived a short time, then moved to Yellow Marsh for most of her childhood.
During her younger years she has worked a few jobs- her most cherished ones were working as a nurse’s aid at the Hazel Hill nursing home for several years and she also worked at the local fish plant. She was one of the founding members of the Canso Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Canso Legion. She very much enjoyed going on trips with the ladies for dart tournaments and playing darts in the local ladies’ league. She was an avid BINGO player (never missed BINGO until this past year) and watching her stories (never interrupt her while she was watching those, if you did, she would let you know it). She also enjoyed listening to music and her bubble baths.
For the last 28 years of her life Mom lived at the Pines Manor. She made many friendships here who would become family to her. There were a group of gals along with her that became known as the “Golden Girls.” They shared many laughs and spent a lot of time together. Mom will always be known for her wit and dry sarcasm and always had a great sense of humor. If you seen her laughing with her legs crossed, you knew you had to get out of her way.
Mom was predeceased by Dad (Leno) and by her loving son Hank (Leanne) whom she missed so much. We are certain they were waiting for her with open loving arms. She was also predeceased by a brother (Patrick) that had passed at birth; brothers Joe and Charlie as well as her sister Minnie. She is survived by her loving daughter AnnMarie (Rick) O’Handley who was her pride and joy and looked after her in so many ways for many years. She is also survived by her sister Stella Parker, Grand-children- Joey (Marie) Snow, Bobby (Tara) Snow, Joyce Snow, Stuart (Ali) Steeves, Callie Snow, Lisa (Jarrett) O’Handley, Jennifer (Allister) Jordan; Great Grand-children- Jade, Jorja, Aiden, Emma, Avery, Jaelynn, Landon, Bryce, Anna, Molly and Jenna. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the home care staff who helped her stay at home as long as possible, her palliative care team as well as the doctors and nurses at EMH for the lovely care and compassion they have given to her and our family during her short stay there. Until her final days she even kept the nurses laughing with her witty comebacks. We would also like to thank family and friends who came to the hospital for family support and to be by her side.
Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 11am in Star of The Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 46, Canso. Funeral directions are under the direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso.
