I need only one word to describe June and that word is Joy.
She was born with a heart full of it, as true Joy comes from within. upon meeting we became instant friends, and i never failed to get a hug, long before hugs were fashionable.and these were real hugs not french air kissing! why because they had Junes Joy.
oh what a pleasure it was to spend even a few minutes in her company!!! Her talents were many and each resonated Joy! once having met her you were never quite the same person because her Joy was infectious. for years after i closed my shop we wrote to each other Yes people really did write letters once upon a time. ! so my dear friend wherever you are I know you are spreading Joy which brings a smile to my face. .

Dear Paula,
I was so sad to read of your Mom’s passing. John and I both enjoyed talking with her and listening to her many stories. I have thought of her often over the years - as a brass “bunny” that she gave me years ago after John’s passing adorns my bookcase. My sincere sympathy to you and your family.
Love, Reta (Jarvis) McKay

Your dear mother/grandmother was an amazing exceptional lady. She was always so kind to myself and my husband. I know Kim and Paula that she will always be right beside you both. Just look in your heart and keep those memories close. May the good Lord give you all the strength to get through this very difficult time.

I remember one winter day when I walked to town to pick up my mail. After I left the post office I happened to meet June on her way to the bank. We stopped to have a chat, which was a normal occurrence while walking around our town. Well June and I had a great talk that day and many laughs too. We must have said five times we had to get going since we were both shivering standing there in the cold. Finally we got a move on and left our chat to finish our errands and get back home where it was much warmer. Every time we met somewhere we always had a good little chat. I will surely miss her especially at the Shamrock music nights. Rest in peace June

Our sincere condolences to June’s family. Our mother, Miriam Smith, was a daily part of the Bushell family in Hazel Hill in their younger days. The Bushells are legendary in the history of the the Hill, and sadly that candle has flickered out. Thoughts and prayers from the Smith family.

I have just learned of June’s passing last night (Apr 2) and I was heartbroken. June was such a fantastic outgoing person and she was very knowledgeable on a lot of subjects. We always had a blast whenever we could get together and I have a LOT of good memories from those times…..pie iron picnics on Fox Island, swimming at ‘The Tickle’, card games, my working holiday at June & Sam’s, seafood suppers, sharing jokes and laughs, and of course visiting The Place on Whitman. These are memories that will be with me forever and I will always treasure them! I had been living in other provinces and also a few years in Germany, and so was not able to visit her over the last few years, but she was a constant in my thoughts. I will miss her…...a lot

My deepest sympathy to Paula and Kim and June’s extended family. My condolences to her many dear friends as well.
June was a memorable woman with a wide range of interests with the zeal and intellect to pursue them all.
One of her biggest passions was music. I met her in 70’s and over the years shared many wonderful musical experiences with her. From her house jams, to the Marina, to the shamrock club…. June was there. She loved music and was a very good writer and penned some excellent songs . June was shy about performing them and I wish more people had been able to hear her perform them.
Her long and productive life is over. I will miss her wonderful sense of humour, her pithy commentary ,her music and her friendship.
