Obituary of Donald Alexander Beaton
Beaton, Donald Alexander “Andy”. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Alexander “Andy” Beaton, 76 of Antigonish and formerly of Port Hawkesbury on Friday, April 28, 2023 in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish with family at his side. Andy was the son of the late Christopher and Annie Margaret (Beaton) Beaton of Skye Glen.
Andy is survived by his daughters, Marianne (Wesley) Trenholm and Andrea (John) Beaton; grandchildren, Michael, Juliana, Katherine, Charlotte, Emma, Jacob, Matthew and Anna; sisters, Jessie Catherine (Oren) MacLean, Susan (Neil) MacDonald and sister in law, Lillian Beaton. As well as his close nephew, Chris Beaton and many more nieces and nephews. Andy was predeceased by his wife, Doris (Wright) and brothers, Neil Dan, Stewart and sister in law, Alice.
In his formative years Andy worked at the Heavy Water Plant and then at Stora Enso as an Instrumentation Mechanic. He was an active member of his community and was there to lend a hand if you were in need. Andy enjoyed hockey, horses, fiddle music and his grandchildren. He very much enjoyed having horses Mr. Weeks and Charlotte’s Flight. Charlotte’s Flight won the Gold Cup and Saucer in PEI in 2001.
A special heartfelt thank you to Andy’s sister’s Jessie and Susan who were with Andy in his final days. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to the staff of the RK MacDonald for everything over the past three and a half years Andy resided there. Your care and compassion, we the family, are forever grateful for.
At Andy’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at the Skye Glen Cemetery on Saturday, May 13th, 2023 at 3 p.m. Margie MacIntyre, LLWL will be officiating the service. In case of inclement weather we will have commital service at the Skye Glen Hall.
A reception to follow in the Skye Glen Hall. Memorial donations can be made to the Skye Glen Cemetery Fund, Skye Glen Hall or the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.
