Ernest Alexander “Ernie” Chandler
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest (Ernie) Alexander Chandler of Soapstone Mines, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Ernie was the son of the late Raymond and Ruth (Wheaton MacLeod) Chandler.
Ernie was a kind person who would give you the shirt off his back. He was very dedicated to his mother and sister. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with his car and spent a lot of time in the woodpile. He drove a truck for many contractors and enjoyed his pets over the years, especially his special cat Mickey.
Left to mourn is his son Kelly (Joy) and daughter Lucy; brothers Raymond (Anne), Frankie (Shirley), Harold, Melvin (Suzanne), Joey (Cheryl), Richard (Elizabeth), Gary (Nerissa); sisters Glenna and Elsie Munro (Jerry); grandchildren Brylen and Hilary; and three great-grandchildren; uncle Arthur Wheaton and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by father Raymond; mother Ruth; sisters Margaret Alice and Annie Mae who died in infancy; nephews Roger and Joel.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 19th from 2-8 pm at the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will take place Saturday, May 20th at 11:00am from Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh with Rev. John Tapscott officiating. Burial to follow in the Stewartdale Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
