Obituary of Clara 'Mae' Ryan
RYAN, Clara “Mae” – October 5, 1935 – September 20, 2023. It is with sad hearts that we, Mae’s family, announce her passing. We are saddened with Mae’s passing but have peaceful hearts knowing that her battle with dementia is finally over.
Mae enjoyed many hobbies, sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, bingo, playing cards and doing puzzles. Mae gifted some of her beautiful work to family and relatives.
Christmas was Mae’s favorite time of year. Her house would be so nicely decorated. She made the best sweet treats to share with many people. Her meat pies were delicious, and she made lots of them to share with family and friends. Her meat pies were the best!
Mae is survived by son, Mike (Shelma) Ryan; daughter, Marie (John) MacKinnon; brothers, Charlie, Hubert, Lonnie (Alnise), Ken (Helen), Edward (Peggy); sisters, Rita, Jean (George) Cook, Adeline and Diane (Jack) Hoben; grandchildren, Kyle (Angela) and Trevor (Keara); great-grandchildren, Nolan and Calem; sister-in-law, Heather Ryan; brother-in-law, Jerry Bennett; also many nieces and nephews, too many to name.
Mae was predeceased by her parents, James and Georgina (LeBlanc) Ryan; brothers, Melvin, Phonse and Michael “Mike”; sisters, Betty and Edwina; granddaughter, Kristen Ryan; sisters-in-law, Rhoda, Sadie and Jeannette; brother-in-law, Junior Snair.
Special thank you to Dr. Jim Collins and the Nursing Staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. We appreciate the care given to Mae in her 4 years as a resident. We’ve heard many, many times “She’s one strong lady!” and that she was!
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Deacon Berkley Guthro officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
