Obituary of Dale Alden MacCalder
MacCalder, Dale Alden. It is with great sadness that the family of Dale MacCalder share that he passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, in Vancouver, BC at St. Paul’s Hospital after a brief illness from complications of covid-19.
Born in Inverness on May 9, 1959, to the late Christena Mary and John Duncan MacCalder. He grew up in Orangedale. Attended Orangedale Elementary School. He then attended Whycocomagh Consolidated School from where he graduated in 1978. After high school he attended CBU where he took Paralegal. After graduating from CBU in 1980 he moved to Halifax for work. In 1986 he attended Holand Collage in PEI and took a photography course. After graduation in 1988 he moved to Fredericton, NB for work at Pro Lab 88 photo lab and doing freelance photography. In August 1999 he packed up his little yellow car and moved from Fredericton to Vancouver, BC. Where he worked at several jobs, bar tending, bouncing, Canada Post and all the while doing photography and volunteering with Disability Alliance British Columbia (DABC) where he assisted clients at reception when they came to the office and Altitude X. He also volunteered at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
He is survived by his sister; Margaret Isabel “Margie” Holliday (Kent), brothers; Angus Allan “Gussie” (Donna MacKinnon), Ian Duncan (Kathy), nieces; Alexis (Gerry), Natalie, Nadine (Shaun), Mary, nephews; John Glen, Alan, William, Michael (Mary Lou), Frank (Allison), Danny (Stacy), Jonathan, Luke, Simon and 19 grand nieces and nephews. He will also be lovingly remembered by his uncle Frederick and aunt Mary and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; Christena and John D., brothers; Frank and Alexander “Sandy” (Brenda) and sister; Ena (Gordon).
The family would also like to thank the Doctors and nurses at St. Paul’s Hospital, Burrard St., Vancouver, BC for there compassionate care they gave our brother and uncle.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Orangedale Gillis Cove Cemetery with Rev. John Tapscott officiating. A luncheon will follow in Smith’s Community Hall, Orangedale.
A Celebration of Dales life will be held in May, 2024 at Junction Pub, Davie Street, Vancouver, BC.
