Obituary of Jessie Katherine MacKenzie
It is with great sadness that we, the family, after 95 years announce the passing of Jessie Katherine MacKenzie on Saturday, October 14, 2023, in River Denys.
Born May 13, 1928, in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late Peter D and Christena Sarah (MacPhail) MacPhail.
Jessie was a schoolteacher and she closed many little red schoolhouses around Inverness County ending her career at Whycocomagh Consolidated High School in 1984. She had a great passion for art and took art courses at Dalhousie University. An avid quilter, Jessie gave/sold numerous quilts over the years which were loved by many all-over North America. She took great pleasure in her paintings and took pride in having family and friends display her works.
A member of the River Denys Presbyterian church and the Eastern Star. She loved to share the news with friends and family, prankster, looked forward to visits and seeing people in River Denys. She enjoyed gardening and being outdoors, lover of animals, historian, and helped many with their Genealogy.
Jessie is survived by her son, Peter (Isabel Elliot) MacKenzie, Glendale, NS; sister, Patsy MacKinnon, North Sydney, NS; grandchildren, Melanie MacKenzie, Dartmouth, NS and Brent MacKenzie, Dartmouth, NS. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Willam B.; brother, Malcolm John “Buddy” MacPhail; and sisters, Margie Reid and Gladys Wyre; and in laws, Neil Reid, Colin MacKinnon and Jean MacPhail.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 18, at Margaret Taylor Cemetery in River Denys. A reception will follow in Blues Mills Fire Hall, 7548 Hwy 105, Blues Mills.
