Joseph "Joe" Herman McPhee

January 24, 1946 - December 13, 2023

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Joseph "Joe" Herman McPhee on December 13, 2023. Joe, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 77, surrounded by love at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home.

Joe was born in River Bourgeois, Nova Scotia, to the late Herman and Margaret (Mae) McPhee (Deyoung). An only child, he was a man of few words, but his quick quips will be remembered fondly and have left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He married the love of his life, Linda Alfreda McPhee (née McNamara), who brought him into her large and loving family. He was a man whose idea of a fantastic time was a glass of rum, a feed of lobsters and Hank Williams on the radio. Always ready with a joke or a teasing question for his caretakers, "Do you know what you’re doing?", his playful banter and laughter will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Joe was predeceased by members of his extended family, Martin and Kay McNamara, Ron and Doris McNamara while left to honour Joe and remember his love are his wife, Linda (Alfreda); his children, Lisa (Greg), Michelle (late Jim Doiron), and Joseph (Janet); his precious grandchildren, Maeve and Colm; and his large extended family including the families of, Margaret Johnson, Eileen (Bert) Reinders, George (Anne) McNamara, Vera (Basil) Bourque, and Karl (Linda) McNamara.

The family would like to acknowledge the entire staff at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for their compassionate care and for embracing Joe's unique sense of humor. Special thanks are due to Velvet, a caretaker at the nursing home whose exceptional kindness and devotion enriched Joe's days. Her willingness to go the extra mile, taking Joe on cherished walks and to listen to music and activities, meant the world to him.

We also remember Joe's best friend, Junior Snair, who was like a brother to him. Junior's regular visits were a source of great joy for Joe, and his passing earlier this year left a void in Joe's heart.

Respecting Joe's wishes, there will be no wake or funeral service and the family will hold a private burial service at a later. Joe's preference for privacy and intimacy in these moments is a reflection of his modest and thoughtful nature. For those wishing to honour Joe's memory, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Whiteside Church Preservation Society. The McPhee family is grateful for your understanding and invites you to share your memories and messages of condolence at www.haverstocks.com  Each story shared will help us celebrate Joe's life and the lasting impact he made on each of us.

"Though his words were few, his impact was immense. Joe's wit and humour were his legacy, leaving us with memories that endure beyond his time on earth."

Rest in peace, Joe. Your laughter lingers in our ears, and your love lives on in our hearts. You are sadly missed and forever loved.
