Obituary of Walter Stanley Mansfield
MANSFIELD, Walter Stanley – Age 69, Sunnyville, Guysborough Co., died on Friday, December 22, 2023, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital surrounded with loving family at his side. Born in Sunnyville on May 30, 1954, he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Marion (Borden) Mansfield.
He was a loving and caring stepdad to daughters, Courtney Whynot, Robyn Pollard and stepson, Luke Pollard and to his step grandchildren. Walter was a loving uncle to many people who knew him “Uncle Walter”. He was a great uncle, great-great uncle, great-great-great uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Walter worked for William Brother’s in Barneys River and then moved to Spryfield and worked at the Halifax Infirmary for over 30 years, before retiring and moving back to Sunnyville.
Walter is survived by his mate, Rosey; brothers, Clyde (Martha Jane), Guysborough; Albert (Lynda), Sunnyville; Joseph Jr., Herbert (Janice), Maurice, all of Toronto; Michael, Guysborough; Roland (Mary Anne), Sunnyville; Brian (Nancy), Sydney; sisters, Yvonne, Gander NL; Verna (Doug), Toronto; Ruby (John), Sunnyville; brother-in-law, Howard Byard. He also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Josephine; brother, Fred; foster sister, Nellie; foster brother, Roland Brodie; sisters-in-law, Cathrina and Marion.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 29 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 30 from Wesley United Church, Guysborough with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough.
