Obituary of Gary Jerome Keefe
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Gary Jerome Keefe, 54 of Little Dover, NS.
Gary passed away on Jan 3rd, 2024 in Eastern Memorial Hospital Canso with his loving family by his side.
Born in Canso, he was the son of Ruth (Haines) Keefe and the late Jerome Keefe. He is survived by his spouse Shirley (Sampson); sons, Dakota and Dalton, both at home. Brothers; Paul, Little Dover, Peter (Cheryl), Fox Island, Step Niece; Courtney. Aunts; Judy Fanning, Lillian Armsworthy, and Paula Keefe, along with many cousins, his in laws; Margie and Billy Sampson, and many wonderful friends especially Tom Haines and Winslow Horne.
Gary was a private quiet guy, who loved his family dearly. He was a great cook, and loved being outdoors, whether it was out in his garage working on fishing gear, hunting, going for drives with his boys or out helping his neighbors. He loved being near or on the water and was a lobster fisherman alongside his father-in-law, his brother, and the last few years his oldest son. Before lobster fishing Gary worked at the Canso Fish Plant (SeaFreez Foods).
His two boys were his pride and joy and he taught both everything he knew.
Gary was well known for his quick wit humor and his huge heart, never leaving anyone stuck or without help for anything. If he had it, it was yours, no questions asked. He was always looking after everyone, especially his family, friends, and neighbors, plowing their driveway after a winter storm, mowing their grass in the summer, or splitting and carry in their wood, never once looking for anything in return from anyone.
The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Cathy Felderhof, Dr. Chris Milburn and Dr. Luke Dobek and all the staff of Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso for their care and compassion to Gary and his family.
In keeping with Gary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. Burial at a later date.
Donations in Gary’s memory can be made to Eastern Memorial Hospital or Fanning Education Breakfast program.
