Obituary of Johnena Isabel MacLean
Johnena Isabel (MacLennan) MacLean
November 13, 1961 – February 13, 2024.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Johnena Isabel (MacLennan) MacLean, in the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with Cancer.
Johnena was born in Inverness, on November 13th 1961, to Agnes and Johnny MacLennan. She grew up in Blues Mills with her brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Over the years, Johnena has been a rock to many. She had a maternal instinct that was loved by all, an infectious laugh, and top of the line sarcasm. As many know, sometimes all it took was “the look” and it would send people laughing. All her life, she loved being surrounded by family and friends. At home, she always had fresh biscuits made, tea or coffee on, and ready for a visit by all.
Johnena is survived by her loving husband, Murdoch Grant MacLean, and the light of her life, Michelle Katherine MacLean. She was also survived by her brother, Francis MacKinnon, Nieces: Karen (Carl) Ferguson, Debbie (Brian) Matthews, Debora, and Doreen (Mark Mellon) MacAulay, Nephews: Roddie (Denise), Kevin (Ethel) MacKinnon, John Neil, Curtis (Kelly), Jason (Crystal) MacLennan, and Kelsey MacKinnon. Grand Nieces and Nephews: Shelby and Brodie MacLennan, Nick (Kira) and Jorden (Sam) Ferguson, Alex MacKinnon, Ella MacLennan, Emily Mellon, Marley MacKinnon. In-laws: Malcolm “Moxie” (Karen) MacLean, Allister (Eileen) MacLean, Sheila MacLean (John Davidson), Tracey MacLean (Daniel Lupien), Marie (Clifford) Collins; nieces and nephews; Jo-Anne, Jeanie, Jessica, Ronnie, Allan, Robert, Richard, Spencer, Barrett, Mary, Veronica, and Molly.
She was predeceased by parents John and Agnes MacLennan, brother Richard, sister, Katherine Mae, nephew Taylor Richard and in-laws Malcolm and Kathleen MacLean, Anne Bradley, Linda MacMillan and Jimmy MacAulay.
Johnena recently retired from the Inverary Manor after over 30 years of service. She always loved her “work family” and was thankful for the support she always received by them. Johnena was an active member of the Blues Mills and Whycocomagh communities where she always ensured there was something good to eat at the Ceilidh or a shoulder to lean in in a time of need.
A big thank you to the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital staff, Nurses, Dr. MacDougall, and Palliative Care team – Dr. Ritter, Paulette, and Oncology team, Dr. Saliba, Dr. Bennett, and her girls, Kelly, Melissa, Melinda, Caitlin and Lisa.
The visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, February 18th in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service 11a.m. Monday from Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh, officiated by Rev. Andrew MacDonald. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
