Obituary of Arthur Cecil Martin
MARTIN, Arthur Cecil – Age 87, Half Island Cove, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16th, 2024 in Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, NL. Born in Harbour Breton, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Richard and Kathleen (Hunt) Martin.
Art was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Queensport. An avid outdoorsman who lived life to its fullest, despite surviving several car accidents and 3 shipwrecks, Art was undeterred from adventure.
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Margaret (2018). He is survived by daughters, Kay (Pat) Ryan, Corner Brook, NL; Jean (Junior) Lumsden, Hubley; Nebbie (Gino) Gagnon, Hubley; sisters, Kathleen (Ray) Martin, Lillian Colombe, sisters-in-law, Wilma Dort and Joyce Martin; grandchildren, Ashley Dawn Ryan, Chaunc Lumsden, Kelsey Lou Lumsden, Emily Gagnon; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Augie Lumsden; Landon and Willow Gagnon, and Finn Ratcliffe. He was also survived by Trudy Jamieson, who was like a daughter to him. He was also predeceased by siblings, Johnny (Bridget), Leo (Sadie) and Reg Martin, brothers-in-law, Donald Greencorn, Finton Marsh, and Leslie Colombe, and niece Lillian Day.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024 from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Queensport with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Art’s name to the Palliative Care Unit of Western Regional Memorial Hospital via e-transfer to foundation@westernhealth.nl.ca or by calling 709-784-5353. Please make sure to indicate that the donation is for the Palliative Care Unit.
