Obituary of William Daniel Nock
William “Billy” Daniel Nock passed away peacefully at Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck on Monday, April 1, 2024. Billy was born in Kewstoke on November 20, 1932 to the late William and Katherine (MacLean) Nock.
Being the oldest boy in the family, Billy left school early to work. He spent most of his working life “in the woods,” cutting pulp, planting trees and thinning tree plantations in the cold, wet and sometimes sweltering conditions of the Cape Breton outdoors. He was a lifelong member and elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Whycocomagh. Billy volunteered with a number of community initiatives over the years and served as a member of the Whycocomagh Volunteer Fire Department.
He was married to Shirley (MacMillian) for 55 years before losing the love of his life to cancer in 2017. He was devastated by the loss and could be seen driving, at least once a day, to the nearby Stewartdale Cemetery to “visit” with her.
Billy is survived by his sons, Bobby, Blair (Debbie); grandchildren, Bridget, Maggie, Angus and Archie; Bridget’s mom, Cathy; sister, Emily (Morrison); brother, Winston (Jean) and a long list of nieces and nephews and their families.
He’s predeceased by sisters, Peggy, Florrie, Dena, Irene, Shirley and Kaye and brothers, Sandy and Jackie.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh with Margie MacIntyre LLWL officiating.
Burial will follow in Stewartdale Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the Church Hall.
