The deepest condolences go out to the MacAskill and MacQuarrie families in the passing of a dear lady. My sister Margaret MacQuarrie from BC and I from Clementsport NS had arrived at the Port Hawkesbury Museum looking for some genealogy assistance years ago . Julia was on the desk and was so welcoming and helpful...just a wee treasure! I had mentioned some male names in the tree that I had been in contact with and she told me they were her relations! I have lost the one name in my senior years but the one was married to a female RCMP officer here in Digby...since posted away. The other was Robert McKinnon (We have McKinnons in our MacQuarrie tree, too) living in Dartmouth at the time..
I think the photo posted on the obituary is perfect..just like I remember her...so sweet.
Rest in Peace, Julia.

To All of Julia's Family,
My sincere condolences to the MacAskill & MacQuarrie Families on Julia's passing. Julia was teaching in Havre Boucher when I started teaching in Antigonish County, and it didn't take very long for us to 'connect'....... I shall miss our chance meetings & conversations, our time to 'catch-up' with each other.

I was a fellow student with Julia at STFXU in 1975. we took Father MacSween's English 350 course on T.S. Elliot and Ezra Pound. We sat together in class and it was wonderful to be friends with this quiet, lovely and friendly woman. She really did a lot of great things with her career and life.. You must be very proud of her. Julia had me over to her trailer for tea on several occasions and I treasured her friendship.
My condolences on the loss of this wonderful lady

Dear family of Cousin Julia,
I am so very sorry to hear of her passing. I've only known Julia a few years due to connecting on Ancestry and facebook connections (via her friend Donna). She was always friendly and helpful and I was looking forward to meeting her on my next trip home. My Uncle Gordon and Aunt Tracy were closer to her and often passed along ancestry questions from me. Many years ago, she promised to send me some information and pictures, but she never finished putting things together. However, it was always nice to know her knowledge was there and we could ask her. I know she will be very deeply missed by all her close friends and family. Sending you my heartfelt sympathies.
You cousin Jennifer in Ontario.
(granddaughter of Alan Dan and Levina MacQuarrie)

Julia was my friend for many years. She was someone I trusted to confide in, someone I shared a lot of laughs with. She listened and she weighed options carefully, often adding to the obvious choices with an insight I always admired. She appreciated any kindness and always treated others with patience and generosity. She loved to learn, read biographies and histories. How the Scots Invented the Modern World was a favourite. Although we were very different, I am impulsive and do things quickly often without thinking things through; Julia took her time, let a problem sit while her mind worked on it; we never had an argument.
When Tony and I got married at the Port Hawkesbury Court House, we ran to Julia's house to tell her. When my husband was dying, Julia was the last person to visit him at our home, just minutes before we left for the hospital for the last time. We loved her dearly.

In the benevolent tapestry of God's creation, we remember Julia as a twinkling thread—an embodiment of passion, wisdom, and curiosity. Drawn together through shared learning at Port Hawkesbury Literacy Network, our bond strengthened over time. Her pursuit of knowledge was an inspiring testament to her belief in lifelong education. Her keen intellect coupled with stimulating conversations, will always be cherished memories. As she embarks on her heavenly journey, may the Lord grant Julia eternal rest.
