Obituary of Marilyn Diane MacAskill
It is with great sadness that the family of Marilyn MacAskill announces her sudden passing on Friday, July 26th, 2024. Marilyn was born in Corner Brook, NL on July 5th, 1953, to Neil and Mary Gillard, and was raised by Nadine and Albert Hillier in Cormack, NL.
Marilyn, a beacon of love and warmth, has left a legacy of joy and kindness. She was a woman of many virtues, cherished by all who knew her. Marilyn's life was a tapestry woven with the love of her family, the beauty of nature, and the melodies of music. Her passion for baking was not just about creating delicious treats, but about spreading happiness and bringing people together.
Marilyn's love for the outdoors was evident in her fondness for birdwatching and fishing, activities that brought serenity and joy. These moments, especially those shared with her husband Glenn at their beloved camper, were cherished chapters of her life. Marilyn's family was her pride and joy, her husband, sons, stepsons, and grandchildren were the stars in her sky, illuminating her world with their love and laughter. Her siblings and stepsiblings held a special place in her heart, each bond unique and precious.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Glenn, her sons, Jason, Stephen, Gerard (Coralie) and Jonathan (Makala); her stepsons, Cullen (Molly), Evan, Adam (Sonya) and Brendan; and all her beloved grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Neil, Allan, Robert, June, and Sandie, as well as her stepsiblings, Debbie, Dianne, Sheila, and Wade. Additionally, she is mourned by her mother-in-law Dorothy, sisters-in-law Brenda (Terry), Sharon, Karen, Laurie, and Mary (Allen), and brother-in-law Paul. Marilyn was predeceased by her birth parents Neil and Mary Gillard, her siblings Kerry and Chris, her sister, Karen, her brother-in-law Kenny, and her father-in-law D.J.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. A graveside service will be held in Princeville United Church Cemetery on Saturday August 3rd, at 11:00 am at the Princeville United Church at 1041 Riverside Drive, Princeville.
