Obituary of George Charles Fox
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of George Charles Fox, 87 of Port Hastings in Strait Richmond Hospital on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024. George was the son of the late Samuel and Mary MacQuarrie Fox. He was predeceased by brothers, William, Lloyd, Ernest and sister-in-law Jacqueline.
George is survived by his wife, Sally Simon Walker; daughter, Shannon Walker (Peter Alexander); granddaughter, Paige Hearn (Kyle); three great grandchildren, Hazel, Austin & Gavin; sister in law Claudette Fox and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
George was employed by the Department of Transport for eight years and then with the Department of Transportation for thirty years as a survey technician where he made many lasting friendships.
George was a member of St. David’s United Church, served as Chairman of the Official Board, Board of Trustees and the Cemetery Committee. He also served on the Board of Stewards. He was a member of the Solomon Lodge #46 for 58 years. He was a founding member of the Port Hastings Fire Department and served as the first Treasurer. He also served as Deputy and later Fire Chief from 1969-1980. George was also a longtime member of the Port Hastings Historical Society.
George had a quick wit and a talent for storytelling. Many sought him out to answer questions about the past. He had a positive zest for life, enjoyed snowmobiling, driving his four-wheeler and cheering for his beloved Red Socks.
George took pride in every endeavor, and this was apparent in his community service and family life.
Heartfelt thanks from our family for the wonderful care that George received from the Inverness County Home Support Society, the doctors and nurses at Strait Richmond Hospital and a special thank you to Dr. Collins & Dr. Wagle.
