We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Donald Joseph Hynes, aged 76, on October 2, 2024, after a short battle with cancer in the Strait Richmond Hospital, surrounded by family.
Don was born December 19, 1947, to the late Peter and Hilda Hynes of Woods Island, NL. Mourning the loss are Don's wife, Edna (Dennis) of 55 years, his son, Sheldon (Audrey), daughter, Pamela (Randy Hobbs), along with grandchildren, Devon "Pop's Man", Aiden and Renee.
Don is survived by his siblings, Greg (Debbie) Hynes, Alberta; Colin (Felicia), Alberta; Matt (Donna) Hynes, Port Hawkesbury; Howard Hynes, Benoit's Cove; Glen (Kim) Hynes, Benoit's Cove; Nancy (Darren) O'Quinn, Benoit's Cove; Elaine Pennell, St. John's; Kay (Herb) Jewers, Mulgrave; brother-in-law, Fred Rambolt, Benoit's Cove; sister-in-law, Eleanor Hynes, Benoit's Cove.
Also left to mourn, Ray and Marion Hynes, Benoit's Cove; Mary Companion, Corner Brook; Mary and Bud Curtis, Curling; Leslie and Roxy Dennis, Corner Brook; Frank and Evelyn Dennis, John's Beach; Ruby Parsons, Corner Brook; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Hilda and Peter Hynes; grandmother, Sarah Hynes; mother-in-law, Irene Mitchell (William); father-in-law, Leslie and Mae Dennis. Also brothers, Roland, Leo and Robert; sisters, Doreen and Marion Marie (Walt) and their son, Elliot; brother-in-law, Sandy Pennell; brother-in-law, Ron Parsons; Ralph and Doreen Dennis. Also predeceased by Joe and Margaret Hynes, Albert and Mary Hynes, Rose and Clayton Short, Will and Dorothy Hynes.
Don started working at Stora Forest Industries , Point Tupper in 1971, where he met many lifelong friends. He retired in 2003. Don loved the Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays and hockey. He was an avid outdoorsman and he loved hunting and fishing.
Upon his request, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
