Obituary of Lorraine (Chisholm) Torrey
TORREY (Chisholm), Alice "Lorraine" - Age 86, passed away peacefully in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital on Monday, October 21, 2024, with family by her side. Lorraine was born September 7, 1938, in Country Harbour to the late Minnie (Smith) and James Chisholm.
At the young age of 16, Lorraine began her first cooking job in North Ogden. Her cooking blossomed into a life long passion which took her all over the province. She was the first female elected as a Guysborough County Councilor, served on the Schoolboard, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 81 and was a die hard Liberal until her very last breath. She was an avid card player, bingo fanatic and sweets lover. She was a spit fire who had no issue speaking her mind and you always knew where you stood with her. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be deeply missed and always remembered for her love of apple juice and pepsi.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Paul) Taylor, North Ogden; Beverly (Gary) Simpson, Manchester; Bonnie (Darrell) Grant, Boylston; Dawn (Donald) Grant, Manchester; Shirley Worth, Boylston; sons, Sandy (Cathy) Worth, NB; Doug (Donna) Worth, Boylston; Bobby (Vicky) Worth, ON; Trevor Torrey, Orangedale; brother, Thomas (Joan) Chisholm; sister-in-law, Bertha Chisholm; special nephew, James Worth; special granddaughter, Adrienne Grant and beloved cat, Boots. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Phyllis; brother, Freddie and her two nephews, Ronnie and Larry Worth.
The family wishes to express their sincere graditude to Dr. Ranjini and the staff at both the Milford Haven Home for Special Care and the Guysborough Memorial Hospital for their kindness, support and care shown to Lorraine during her final days.
Visitation will take place in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, October 28. A memorial service will be held a 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29 in Boylston United Church with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial will follow the service. A reception will follow the burial in the Boylston Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Foundation, Boylston Community Centre or to L'Arche Cape Breton.
